My Grand Illusion top is finished.
I decided I didn’t want to cut any more fabric to make additional blocks. So I stopped at 9, which gives me a 60″ square top. Because my top is smaller, I had to modify the corner squares in the border. I used the gray/red 4 patches instead. It looked better than the units called for. I love it.

Very nice! Good way to get the border to fit. Mine is 3×3, too, and I didn’t think of this option.

I love your colours!!
I still have to figure out the border… I have a 4 by 4 setting.
Did you notice one of the cornerblocks is turned the other direction than the other three?
You’re finished quilt will look great! Well done!

I really like your colors! I am making a smaller version too and it was nice to see how you tackled the outer border. I was considering making a separate unit to put in the middle of each side, but I see that there really is no point in doing it. Great quilt!

I had to chop off about 1/4″ at each end of the border strips to make them fit but it’s not enough that anyone would notice.

It looks like you used a pure constant white for your neutral. I think it really made the design pop!

I actually used several small WOW fabrics. Only one of the blocks has a snow white fabric.

Looks great! I’m doing the smaller 3×3 size as well. What size is your inner red border?
